    Search engine optimization or SEO is the process of improving the quality and/or the volume of traffic a website recieves via unpaid organic or natural search results. Popular search engines are constantly updating their indexes and adding new sites to better serve internet surfers worldwide. In order for your site to be successful with search engines SEO work is a must. When becoming involved with SEO it is important know/understand the tools and software as well as the different areas of the website you will be working with. The first type of software you will be working with is an editing program with the ability of publishing updates to your site. If you hired a professional to build your site this is ok. Consult your hosting provider and/or a webdesign professional to see which type of program is recommended for your site. Such programs include adobe Dreamweaver, Microsoft expressions web, and webdesign products by coffee cup. Open source programs are also available, usually for free and sometimes work just as well as the more expensive programs. If you are new to webdesign and SEO your program of choice will be a WYSIWYG type program. WYSIWYG means what you see is what you get. This type of software allows the user to write and design the site and content as it would be seen in a typical browser. As the user designs what they would like to see, the program creates the html code and script for them. Following webdesign, you will need some sort of SEO software for analyzing site content and creating meta tags. Although our meta tags page shows the format for writing meta tags, these programs are also useful because they offer tools that will analyze site content for keyword definitions and meta tag analysis. You can opt away from this type of software if you feel comfortable writing your own tags as kostonline and many other sites offer free keyword and meta tag analysis tools. Finally, you will need site analytics to track your site performance and SEO success. The most popular analytics program is with google and it's free. This program is web based and is available once you have signed up for google AdSense or google AdWords which are also free accounts. Analytics will show you how many visitors your site is receiving, as well as their uniqueness, frequency, and location. This program also show you what type of ISP's and browsers your visitors are using. Whether or not you decide to use google's analytics program it is advised to create both accounts (AdSense and AdWords) as both offer many other useful tools and tips.
